I am Lillian Valacia, the mayor of SiyaThemba Municipality, SiyaThemba
is know as The Gem of the Northern Cape. I was born in Prieska. I
obtained my primary education in Prieska at the Bantu Community School
then followed High School education at Tshireletso Senior Secondary
School in Kimberley.
I am a single parent, a mother of three one daughter two sons. I
am a dedicated Christian in the African Methodist Episcopal Church
(AME Church).
My employment career started with work at an old age home as a nurse-aid in
1984. In 1988 I started a crèche in the local community hall with 95
totally new, strange and exciting kids. My vision was to assist them with their
mother language, which is Xhosa, and others who were interested this included
some colored kids too. I’ve been operating the center for thirteen years
at Mzamomhle Educare Center, we started in a community hall,
become
successful we built a beautiful building which cost R120,000.00. ‘92
I am a member of the ANC & ANC Women’s League and was Regional
Executive Committee Member as well as Provincial Executive Committee
member of the Woman’s League, directly elected. I’ve been
the deputy chairperson of the Women’s League for two years.
Additional community service includes being Area Chairperson of the
Women Missionary Society (WM’S) in my church for two Quadrainium’s
at conference level and a Local Director of the Young People’s
Division. YPD’S
I took part in the local Government Elections in December 2000 and
become the Mayor of Prieska, Marydale and Niekerkshoop on the 14th
December 2000 with the integration process known as SiyaThemba Municipality.
In my life time I’ve worked with all the categories of people
and my ideal is to continue to work with them to see to it that the
dream of the indigenous people come true together with the ANC fighting
poverty, creating jobs, creating a healthy environment and not discriminating
against anyone and create A BETTER LIFE FOR ALL.
Prior to becomming the mayor I was a Presiding Officer in the Local
Elections of 1995 and an Observer of the National Election of 1999. |
